„Royalist“ is the 200th ship on this years‘ Hanse Sail

The sail training ship „Royalist“ from the United Kingdom is the 200th ship coming to Rostock for this years‘ Hanse Sail. „We are proud to announce that we were able to win such a well-known ship for our event“, says Holger Bellgardt, head of the Hanse Sail office.

The Royalist has recently won the Tall Ships races in their class A, one of the world’s most important races for tall ships. It is the first time that this vessel, built in 2014, visits the Hanse Sail.

The Tall Ships Races have been the first sailing regatta the flagship of the Sea Cadets ever partcipated in, and it was the first victory in this competition for the UK since 31 years. Maybe the ship’s patron – Queen Elizabteh II. herself -  has helped the crew.

10 adult crew memebers and 24 Cadets ususally man this 32 meter long brigg. The crew is lead by a female captain. A speciality of her and the rest of the team is their extraordinary sense of humor: To celebrate their victory oft he TSR the entire crew decided to enter the port in Szczecin wearing superhero costumes.

The vessel, which is also used by the marines, comes directly from Szczecin to Rostock. The Hanse Sail is a spontaneous stop before they head back to London next week. „Our young cadets are excited to explore Rostock. The crew also wants to attend the festival and offer guests the opportunity to explore the ship and show them how the Sea Cadets live on board. Within the meaning of an open ship we want to present the organisation of the ‚Sea Cadets‘.“, explains Edward Meens, press officer of the institution.

The Sea Cadets are an UK based charity. Their at least six day long journeys offer young people between 13,5 and 18 years the opportunity to gain qualifications like the ability for team work and to develop confidence and camraderie. The cadets come together from all over the UK, so on their trips a lot of friendships are created.

Another British sail training vessel has announced their participation in the festival – the „Prolific“ comes from Szczecin to Rostock as well.
