Less than four months before the actual date of the country's largest annual maritime folk festival, possible conditions caused by the worldwide corona pandemic are at best foreseeable.
"The 30th birthday of our Hanse Sail should not be a shadow of itself but a shining celebration where Rostock welcomes guests from all over the world at the quaysides of the Warnow like the 29 years before", says the Mayor.
Even though this cancellation may be disappointing, it certainly does not come as a surprise. "The organisation of the Hanse Sail requires a long run-up", says tourism director Matthias Fromm. "We also owe it to our many long-time loyal partners to make a clear decision now and not leave them in the dark. Mayor Claus Ruhe Madsen adds: "Of course, all other major events in Rostock are also put to the test. With this difficult decision we take our responsibility as an organizer and we will try to create appropriate formats that show our anticipation of the 30th Hanse Sail in August 2021 and carry it out into the world!
Matthias Fromm is sure that the anniversary edition of the Hanse Sail can be duly celebrated next year: "We will catch up on the anniversary celebrations and use the time until then to work on a Hanse Sail development concept and to make the Sail even more attractive for participants, guests, traders and showmen.
The 30th Hanse Sail takes place from August 5th to 8th 2021!
