“Mini Sail“ – The IGA Park flourishes

The IGA Park will be part of the 29th Hanse Sail with a new event concept. “The new ‘Mini-Sail’ is supposed to be relaxing and cosy” says Tom Witt from IWM events GmbH in Hamburg, who developed the event concept in cooperation with the management of the IGA Park. “Directly in front of the traditional ship ‘Dresden’ is the ideal place to enjoy, temporarily or for the whole day, a combination of park and Sail atmosphere with a beautiful view over the Warnow. The ‘Tradi’ is a great lookout for observing ships entering and leaving the harbour. The exhibition about the history of shipbuilding, shipping and harbours will be open as well”, informs Matthias Horn, Manager of the IGA Rostock 2003 GmbH.

Alongside a comprehensive culinary offer ranging from handmade Cocktails, freshly pressed juices, cold tapped beer, original tarte flambé and good wine to crêpes and waffles and of course crisp Bratwurst, there will be a diverse program with relaxing live music on the 10.000 square meters large area. Tom Witt: “Maybe the new Mini-Sail can grow after its premier 2019 and turn into a real alternative to the turmoil at the city harbour, especially for families.”

The more than 70 miniature model ships from german model builders will be another highlight for both children and adults. The visitors can steer the small cargo ships, sailing vessels, ferries or seaplanes on Friday and Saturday (9th/ 10th August) from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Some “Captains of country roads” will also be present and show some of their american vintage car collector’s items: “Chevys”, Buicks or Cadillacs.

The Surpremeshop GmbH offers Stand up Paddling for everyone and industrial climbers from Rostock inform about their unusual work at unusual places in great heights. The “Dresden” is ideal for demonstrations of the climbing as well as the rescue of persons. Visitors can also participate in a free trial course in climbing.

The traditional “cutter rowing–race” will take place on Saturday (10th August) from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. For the second time the rowers compete in a race in which they circumnavigate the traditional ship and in which the fastest crew wins. As they say in North Germany: “Na denn man Ruder- und Dollenbruch”.
