Opening Concert for the 29th Hanse Sail Rostock
"Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern“ brings music to Rostock
The „Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern“ are well known for their big names and appealing locations. With its unique charm, the Rostocker Halle 207 is definitely one of these. Visitors can experience six concerts in the former Neptun wharf this year. The seasons kick off by the world music quartet Quadro Nuevo is dedicated to recapturing the folksong as smooth Bossa Nova and passionate Tango (17.07.). The “junge norddeutsche philharmonie” will traditionally open the Hanse Sail this summer under the conduction of Clemens Schuldt, supported by the violist Nils Mönkemeyer. The British King’s Singers will also perform and present an international A-Capella program with choir classics by Schütz und Duruflé, before they will be joined by the Rostocker Motettenchor for the collaborative finale with contemporary choir music by Bob Chilcott and Billy Joel (08.08.). During “MV from above” Alexej Gerassimez (Winner of the “Festspielpreis”) and his musicians go on a cinematic and musical journey over the federal state (15.08.) and the jazz musician Nils Landgren performs twice on the 1st of September. The highly gifted entertainer and his musical friends take the whole family through a musical story time in the midmorning. In the evening they play through a variety of jazz, funk and soul.
Alongside the concerts in the Halle 207 there will be concerts in the Rostocker Zoo and the Katharinensaal of the Academy for Music and Theatre Rostock (hmt) this summer. The Zoo celebrates its 120th birthday. What would be more fitting than celebrating these festivities with Carnival of the Animals by Saint-Saëns played by the German Chamber Orchestra Berlin and read by Katja Riemann? Katia and Marielle Labèque will complete the program with Mozart’s Concert No. 10 for two pianos. The “Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern” organizes a summer campus in cooperation with the hmt Rostock at the end of august during which aspiring musicians will play alongside prestigious artists like Alexej Gerassimez, Barbara Buntrock, Stefan Hempel and many more (22th/30th August, Katharinensaal).
