Sporty Sail: Baltic Sail Nations Cup and Kutterpullen
The ‚1. Baltic Sail Nations Cup’ takes place in the sailing stadium. He is an expression of the cohesion between the participating cities of the 15 years old Baltic Sail. Since Friday, a Match-Race between the nations Lithuania, Poland and Germany takes place in the boatsclass Skippi 650. The Polish helmsman comes back from a circumnavigation; for Rostock Alexander Schlonski and Matthias Bohn compete. The competition is presented by the sports-moderator Christoph Schumann, who presented inter alia the America’s cup. At the ‚Kutterpullen’ of the Naval cutters on Sunday, teams of main sailing vessels row from 3 p.m. The competition director Dieter Dreischank is curious if the series can be stopped: ‚For five years, ‚Rostock’s Oldies’ always win with an age from 50 to 70 years. The presentation ceremony will be made by the citizenship’s president, Karina Jens.

Stand Up Paddling (SUP) & Waterskiing-Show in the sailing stadium
On Saturday, the ‚German SUP Challenge’ takes place in Rostock. Stand Up Paddling is an offical kind of sport, but a couple of years ago... Original, the sport comes from Hawaii, because there, the fishermen used boards to fish in the sea. From 12 p.m. it is about to earn points in the fun- and race class of the German SUP Challenge. For all, who do not want to be active at the SUP-Race, there is the opportunity on the Sail-days to experience the Stand Up Paddling for free, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The water diving club ‚Luzin’ from Feldberg has smaller boards. The top performers and the hobby athletes will presents their talents. Besides competition disciplines, such as: slalom, jumping you can see how the atheletes slide over the water, barefoot or in funny fancy dresses. There will be a pyramid also. You can experience this wet spectacle at 2 p.m.; 7 p.m. and 10 p.m.

Historic maritime experience areas for children and their parents at the Silo-peninsula
There will be a nice place for young children and their parents: the historic spectacle ‚Living in the Hanseatic period’ and the ‚Childrens’ Paradise’ in the Silo-area. On the occasion of Hanse Sail-association Dr. Wolfgang Müller coordinates the activities, which are specially made for children.It begins with the ‚Musical travelling theatres Cocolores Budenzauber’. The family Frick perform beautiful things on stage: Punch and Judy, juggler show, fairy tales, fire show… But the children can be active as well under instruction of Robert Temmen and his employees. Holger Sasnowski offers with all hands in medieval flair food and trinks. Let’s go to the musical travelling theatre and to the ‚miniland MV’!

You can find a lot of cheerfulness, despite the weather, on board of the traditional sailing ship ATALANTA
The passionate sailer Helmut Schmidt prefers the relaxed atmosphere on board of the ATALANTA, so he sails with the Danish prime minister six days to Bornholm. Rain, rain, rain – and suddenly a happy group on board of the gaff schooner, which is situated in the city harbour. Protected under a sail, a group of people sit together with a coffee and all of them have a smile on their faces. You have the feeling that you can sail with them to every place in the world. 1994 the sponsorship association ATALANTA e.V. was founded in Wismar. Already a year after it, the donation of the gaff schooner to the associationt took place. Eight years after it, the members of the association did comprehensive reconstruction work and since 2001, the ATALANTA sails with young people and adults on the Baltic Sea and participates in sailing events, since 2 days at the 21. Hanse Sail too.

The group ‚Transit’ – ‚Transiter’ with their new album ‚Über’s Meer’ come to the 21. Sail
’I go to the coast, to the ocean, to the gulls to the wind. Not only because of the healthy air, but also because of two, three mates, who can be found there’, so a lyric of the band ‚Transit’. If the Hanse Sail had excisted then, a line in a lyric would be ‚… and due to the Hanse Sail’. But the musicians can show today on the Hanse Sail-stage what they are famous for. The creative heads of the band Egon Linde and Siegfried Stolz had a lot of excellent musicians on their side and the drummer Lutz Krüger was the impetus for the ‚reunion’ of the band on 12th June 2009. There were many new ideas and a lot of new material for good songs. In 2010 the new album ‚Über’s Meer was released with ten new and two revised older songs. So, it is obvious that the band performs for their fans.

Parallell to the maritime event the 12th gunner- and saluting gun meeting takes place from 13th to 14th August.
When you hear on the second weekend in August, cannons from the east pier in Warnemünde and from the waterfront in Gehlsdorf, then Rostocks’ inhabitants and their guests know that the Hanse Sail has started. Among the numerous saluting machines, which arrived from nearly all states in the cannon-bivouac on the ‚Wellenweg’, you can find the ‚Concordia’, a muzzle-loader naval gun from the year 1760, which you can classify into Rostock’s history. You can visit the ‚Concordia’ during the Hanse Sail in the bivouac of Rostock’s gunner and saluting gun meeting at the waterfront in Gehlsdorf. Interested visitors can shoot the historic guns by prior arrangement and receive a certificate for a small fee.

The ‚Official seal of honour for honourable businessmen’ will be awarded on board of the ‚Lisa von Lübeck’
The Association of Medium-Sized Enterprises represented by Werner Röpert (state association Mecklenburg-Vorpommern) awards today to selected businessmen the official seal of honour. ‚Careful entrepreneurs and craftsmen currently invest in ethical values and in value management’, explains Werner Röpert and emphasizes that such ‚honourable businessmen’ commits with a handshake to ‚act reliable in the Hanseatic sense’. An excellent reason for the Hanse Sail-association fo support these actions, which matches very well to the project ‚Living in the Hansesatic period’, so the project-coordinator Wolfgang Müller.

Political, economic and cultural contacts Norway’s to Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania
First political contacts between Mecklenburg and the kingdom Norway go back more than 100 years.1905 the king Haakon VII. appointed Rostock’s Councillor of Commerce and merchant Ernst Winter to the Norwegian consul for the Grand Duchies Mecklenburg-Schwerin and Mecklenburg-Strelitz. Until 1943- and since 1992 again – inhabitants of Rostock represent and represented Norwegian’s interests in Mecklenburg or rather Mecklenburg Western-Pomerania. Even in regard to maritime aspects the relations are intensive. More than 100 Norwegian freighters came from shipyards in Mecklenburg.; vice versa numerous ships from Norway sailed under flags of Rostocks’ shipping companies. Rostock and the Norwegian Bergen are more than 45 partners. Caspar David Friedrich and the Norwegian painter Dahl were close friends. And: Norway: is a part of the Hanse Sail, since the first one in 1991. At the this year’s Sail the oldest and still active full-rigged ship of the world, the 84 years of age ‚Sörlandet’ represents the partner country Norway.

The weather
Can we expect better weather on the Sail-weekend? Not really. The metereologists announce a mainly dry Saturday, but describe it as cloudy as well. Unfortunately, there will be shower clouds. Therefore, Sail-guests should have weatherproof clothing and an umbrella.
