Steam icebreaker “Stettin“ the 22nd time at the Hanse Sail
That’s an old sea dog as we know it from old times, Dieter Haase. In the association „Icebreaker Stettin e.V.“ he is in charge of the administration. Except that he is a still active, but pensioned, captain.

There you can experience him, when he handles already long time outdated technology such as mechanic telegraphs and megaphones which are nowadays only known from old movies. But the main responsibility is to lead the 700 members of the association. “Only about 150 are active” relativizes Dieter, “but also those want to be managed adequately. The Stettin is sold out for the 22nd Hanse Sail and therefore the work of many volunteers is needed. To offer an enjoyable stay for 185 passengers is not a cakewalk.” The Stettin is the worldwide biggest, still coal-fired, steamship which has all characteristics of a museum. Until 1981 it was in an operating state but during the subsequent year it started to take passengers on board from the home harbor Hamburg Oevelgönne.
