In the center of the anniversary from 5 th to 8 th August 2010 over 200 traditional sailors and museum ships are located. Since 1991 approximately 1.050 different guest ships from over 30 nations participated in the Hanse Sail and altogether they call at the ports of the Hanseatic city more than 3.700 times.

The oldest and world´s largest windjammer are guests
Particularly joyfully welcomed birthday guests will be the two oldest and largest windjammers of the world, the 89-years old Russian SEDOV from Murmansk and the KRUZENSHTERN (year of construction 1926) which is registered in Kaliningrad. Substantially younger, but not less attractive, is the DAR MLODZIEZY with a length of 100 m (year of construction 1982). Their repetitive arrival in Warnemünde is not least the expression of the very good relations of the organisers and the Hanseatic city Rostock with their Polish partners.

These windjammers offer sailing trips on the Baltic Sea forwards Warnemünde as well as scores of brigs, galleasses, cutters or museum ships, whose crews were welcomed by responsible people of the Sail with a bouquet of flowers. On Sunday they will be adopted by more than 40 hotels and restaurants, the so-called „Gastlichen Mecklenburgern“.

Among the sailers the GULDEN LEEUW is a specticular guest and with a length of 70 m the largest 3-mast-Topsail schooner of the Netherlands, which were put into service in may 2010. The 3-mast-schoners VEGA GAMLEBY and INGO as well as the post office yacht HIORTEN documents the Swedish shipbuilding art during the anniversary Sail.

A special sail experience under race conditions offers the 2nd shark cutter race on 4 th August 2010 from the Danish Nysted to Warnemünde. Approximately 20 of these traditional ships, the oldest is over 100 years old, sail to win the Scandlines cup.

Besides the attractive sailing trips the participating ships invite to „Open ship “and to a Klönsnack, not only for ship lovers an excellent opportunity open to make themselves familiar with history and stories of the old ships. Since 1991 also the men and women of the German navy look forward to the visit of tens of thousands guests on their grey ships and in the open base “Hohe Düne”.

Air-minded visitors of the Sail can follow the friendly request „Fliegen Sie mit!“ and start and land from Rostock Marienehe by water airplane or helicopter, in order to regard the fascinating sail scenery from the bird's-eye view.

Attractive offers at the loading quay
The fascinating maritime production with the active old timers under sails or steam forwards Warnemünde, at the passenger dock and in the old city harbour will be supplemented by attractive offers at the loading quay during the anniversary sail.

The most spectacular eye-catchers are the approaches of seven cruise liners during the sail. There are a lot of things offered for the visitors on the Warnow: demonstrations of the German society to the rescue of shipwrecked ones, water ski shows of the WSC Luzin, rudder races or the activities in the sail stadium of the Hanse Sail, which is for the first time on a level with the former Neptun Werft and which also offers an exciting programm on shore.

During the 20 th Hanse Sail it is new to have the possibility to make a trip into the “Hanseatic period” on the silo peninsula, where six repliques of cogs moor and where the time over a hundred years ago will be readjusted. Entertaiment for the small sail visitors will be provided at the “Kletterkogge”. In the museum harbour Rostock´s partner of the EU-project SeaSide present boats from the backwaters of the Baltic Sea, among them is historical sailing ship from Lithuania, the partner country of this year´s Hanse Sail.

At “Warnow in flames” visitors could experience on Saturday evening a special fireworks which starts in Warnemünde and ended over several stations along the Warnow in the city harbour of Rostock. Finally also the seats at the loading quay in the city harbour will be treasured at the closing night of the 20 th Hanse Sail during the”Parade of nations” and the following sailing of the cogs.

Various nuances of the maritime folk festival
The land program of the 20 th Hanse Sail offers also numerous of quiet options apart from stout folk festival moments between ferris wheel and roll pug. This includes about a dozen of exhibitions in all of Rostock as well as conferences, like the traditional conference of security policy of the Molinari foundation or the Hanse Sail Business Forum.

A tradition of the maritime celebration is the sailor service the on 8 th August held for the 20 th time. Large and small market lovers can choose between the international market, the Historia Spectaculum, a medieval market happening, a dipping container, or the Minisail in the IGA park in Schmarl with ship and water airplane models. Highlights of the stage programs are the evening appearances of the “Puhdys on the Hanse Sail stage and from “Karat” on the NDR stage on 6 th August.

The commemorative event „20. Hanse Sail“takes place on the area of the former Neptun Werft with the “North German Philharmonic Concert Hall “and artists from countries of the Baltic Sea area. The Hanseatic city Rostock asks on 6 th August 2010 almost 2,000 Sail pioneers of the first hour, honorary aides, partners and sponsors to take place. It´s a thanks to all those, which made and make this large celebration possible. Participants are the Hanseatic brewery Rostock, OSPA and OSV, Scandlines, Eurawasser, LIDL, WIRO and the sea port Rostock company which stand behind the largest maritime folk festival in East Germany also in crisis periods.

The Hanse Sail Rostock belongs to the world-wide largest meetings of traditional sailors and museum ships. Since 1991 the maritime folk festival takes place on the second August weekend annually. Approximately 250 participant ships offer an alive maritime world fair together with cruise liners,ferries and ships of the navy. Annually over one million people visit the Hanse Sail.
